Several weeks ago I was tweeting with Christine of Un-Sticthed about bloggers writing books, and it got me to thinking about a book I once started writing/conceptualizing a few years ago, that was a mixture of empowerment and style tips. The book was to be titled Your Body Is Fabulous, So Dress Like It! So many times women live dressing (or not) for the body they hope to have, instead of the gorgeous body they are presently blessed with. During my break, I thought about this a lot and have decided to create a weekly series based on my book that never came to be…Your Body Is Fabulous Thursday! Every Thursday I will feature a lovely lady, bloggers as well as other gorgeous ladies I know or meet, who will tell us what makes their bodies fabulous!
Today’s fabulous lady is Reiko of God’s Favorite Shoes! She is a fellow blogger in the Houston area with gorgeous style and hair and that I just DIE for.
What makes your body fabulous?
Hmmm…I can’t say that I’m always in love with my body but I’ve never hated it either. I do enjoy my curves. I always feel like curves makes a girl into a woman. I do love the look of my legs when I wear heels as well.
What is your favorite thing about how you look? And why?
I love that I look like me. I love when I put on an outfit and I think “This feels like me.” It’s something about finally learning my style that makes me feel confident. I don’t try to look different…it just seems to happen that way.
What are your favorite things to wear to flatter your body or just help you feel good?
I “likes” me a good pencil skirt…umm hmmm. Often maxi skirts are sexy to me too.
When it comes to finding clothes, what are some issues you come across? And how do you solve them?
Ugh…My boobs! They are on the heavy side so I have to be careful of how certain tops and dresses look on me.
What role do you think the media plays in body acceptance?
I think the media has done a great job of brainwashing the public that skinny is better…by any means necessary. The magazines very rarely use images of real sized women but I don’t make that my issue. If I see something I like in the media, I find a way to make it work for me. Nothing is sexier than clothes that FIT! I never am discouraged…I just make it “do what it do” when it comes to how I rock my style.
What are your thoughts on female body acceptance and appreciation?
I really think people get hung up on numbers. I include myself in that statement. It’s human nature but I think we all should lighten up a little. There will always be someone smarter, thinner, more muscular, more fit, has a bigger better booty…but I try not to get overwhelmed by that. I think as long as a person knows how to rock their style (appropriately), then I say enjoy your body. Don’t get me wrong! As I’m typing this reply, I’m looking in the mirror “side eyeing” my thighs but I’m alive and healthy. That’s Sexy! That’s hot!
Isn’t she amazing! Thank you Reiko for being the first in what I hope to be a long series of women sharing what makes their bodies fabulous!
