Your Body Is Fabulous- Inez
November 10, 2011 in Blogger Friends, Body Acceptance, Female Empowerment, Style, YBIF
Every Thursday I feature a lovely lady, bloggers as well as other gorgeous ladies I know or meet, who tell us what makes their bodies fabulous! The purpose is to empower women to to accept and love their bodies’ as they are by showing women with various body types, skin colors, hair textures, and more. All of the things that makes our bodies’ different, make our bodies’ fabulous! This week the lovely Inez of Style Chic 360 tells us what makes her body fabulous!
What makes your body fabulous?
I truly believe what makes my body fabulous is my acceptance of it. I have always been curvy even when I was a kid and didn’t need or want the curves. It took years to fully accept my body but once I did it made dressing and feeling fabulous much easier.
What is your favorite thing about how you look? And why?
I have big brown expressive eyes, although I don’t wear much makeup I love playing them up a bit with mascara and eyeliner. Not too much but just enough to enhance them. I’ve really grown to love them. Sadly, I was not blessed in the booty department, but I was generously blessed with hips. Being that I’m top heavy, my hips even out and make up for what I lack in the rear LOL.
What are your favorite things to wear to flatter your body or just help you feel good?
I love to wear dresses/skirts and heels. Dresses and skirts are the ultimate feminine items they make me feel so pretty and depending on the cut and style I can go from girly to sexy to edgy or even sophisticated. Next, I absolutely love high-heeled shoes. I admit I was a gym shoe head when I was younger, but once I bought my first pair of stilettos and could walk in them I was hooked. I am 5’3 so naturally my legs are short; they are also chunky and “thick”. I love wearing heels to elongate my legs and of course wearing heels puts a little extra pep in my step while adding just a little sexy to my look.
When it comes to finding clothes, what are some issues you come across? And how do you solve them?
I’m top heavy so a lot of times I have problems, buttoning certain tops/jackets which can be pretty annoying, I tend to stay away from button up shirts or I buy them bigger and most of the time belt them or tuck them in to camouflage the fit. On the flip side I tend to wear my blazers open and that seems to look and work fine for me. I’m also plus size however when I shop most plus brands the clothing never fits right, it’s either too big in the waist, too long or just unshapely. I’m finding shopping not by size but by cut is working to my advantage. I’ve always been one to try everything on and lately it’s worked in my favor. I’ve been able to make straight/smaller sizes work for me. Perfect example a grey striped dress I found at a thrift store that’s a size 8 petite…it works and I’m a size 16!
What role do you think the media plays in body acceptance?
The media plays a huge role in body acceptance, but they make it very hard to accept your body! It’s so easy to want to “fix” or alter your self with the portrayals we see on a daily basis. The media definitely needs to be more conscious of the messages it’s producing.
What are your thoughts on female body acceptance and appreciation?
Growing up it was hard for me to accept my body because most of the girls hated me for having a “grown up body” at such a young age and I seemed to get all the unwanted attention from the boys. Now that I’m grown, I have become very comfortable in the skin I’m in so my body acceptance comes from within. When you are confident in yourself, others will notice. Lastly, ladies we have to be supportive of one another and begin and continue to uplift each other! A genuine compliment goes a long way and of course blogging is a great community to do so!
