February 2, 2012 in Blogger Friends, Body Acceptance, Female Empowerment, Style Inspires, YBIF

Every Thursday I  feature a lovely lady, bloggers as well as other gorgeous ladies I know or meet, who tell us what makes their bodies fabulous!  The purpose is to empower women to to accept and love their bodies’ as they are by showing women with various body types, skin colors, hair textures, and more.  All of the things that makes our bodies’ different, make our bodies’ fabulous!  This week I share with you the amazing Fajr of Stylish Thought!!

What makes your body fabulous?
My body is fabulous because it’s mine. It is the body that God has blessed me with and it is my job to revere it, push it and take very good care of it.

What is your favorite thing about how you look? And why?
My favorite thing about my appearance is my shape. I love my curves, my breasts and bum. It’s totally cliche, but my shape makes me feel womanly and in control. There has been such a backlash against women’s bodies, both thin and shapely, it’s really great to see women of different body shapes embrace themselves. Having big breasts doesn’t make me any more of a woman than the next woman, but it is something I have come to fully embrace about myself.
What are your favorite things to wear to flatter your body or just help you feel good?
I really love vintage shillouettes, 50′s swing dresses and v-necklines. Anything with a cinched waist and hourglass shape flatters my body and makes me feel classy and strong at the same time.
When it comes to finding clothes, what are some issues you come across? And how do you solve them?
For me I’m bigger on top than below, so dressing is about creating balance in my shape. I’m also not a huge fan of too-tight clothing. It’s like the famous Edith Head quote,  “A dress should be tight enough to show you’re a woman and loose enough to prove you’re a lady.”
What role do you think the media plays in body acceptance?
I think the media plays a large part in how we percieve ourselves and also what is permissible in society. When we see one-sided images of women we begin to internalize that as the standard. I think it’s the media’s job to display the diversity of women and our bodies. We come in a million flavors and none of them are vanilla!
What are your thoughts on female body acceptance and appreciation?
My thought is that we have one body and one life to live. Why waste it being envious of someone’s genes. Our bodies are only one aspect of what makes us great. We shouldn’t focus so much on our body and realize that we have great minds and hearts as well ;)

Thank you so much Fajr!!  Isn’t she fabulous?! I love her point, that it’s our job to revere our body; I hadn’t thought of it that way.
