Every Thursday I feature a lovely lady, bloggers as well as other gorgeous ladies I know or meet, who tell us what makes their bodies fabulous! The purpose is to empower women to to accept and love their bodies’ as they are by showing women with various body types, skin colors, hair textures, and more. This Thursday I bring to you the fabulous Kendra of Kendra’s Beauty Corner!!
What makes your body fabulous?
My smooth chocolate skin & my voluptuous curves! I love how I’m able to fill every “nuck and cranny” of my clothes lol. From the faint dimples in my cheeks, to the fullness in my thighs, I love who I am. Through the years, I’ve learned to love every ounce of me…
What is your favorite thing about how you look? And why?
I love my pretty smile & full eyebrows… Even if someone is mad at me, all I have to do is show my dimples, lift a brow, and it lightens the mood lol. My smile says so much about who I am… Carefree, helpful, playful, sincere, concerned, loving, and compassionate. I care about others well-being and I love to see others happy.
What are your favorite things to wear to flatter your body or just help you feel good?
That’s a tough one! Because I love everything lol. I love to try funky, retro colors! And I love vintage clothing, oh and my bet friend, mini skirts. Being plus size, some may think it’s hard to be “trendy”, but little do they know, shopping takes me on cloud nine. I love the challenge of finding things that flatter my curves!
When it comes to finding clothes, what are some issues you come across? And how do you solve them?
One issue that has gotten better is finding jeans that fit over these robust thighs! I’ve always been bottom heavy, but that has never stopped the fun shopping! I just opt for dresses or skirts more than wearing denim jeans. Problem solved lol.
What role do you think the media plays in body acceptance?
Oh geez, I have too many opinions on what the media portrays to be “beautiful”, but I will say my confidence has not always been as it has… I can remember crying many nights, asking God why He made me dark skinned and bigger than everyone else. I wore sports-bras and taped my breast down because I didn’t want to show my curves. Fast forward 20 years later: I learned that I was created with a purpose and my beauty started from within. When you begin to love YOU, then nothing else really matters. And I must say, I love the woman I’ve become.
What are your thoughts on female body acceptance and appreciation?
Again, it starts from within. Until a woman truly accepts who they are and how they were created, then we will continue to have unhappy women in the world. We all have flaws, but that’s for us to judge, not others. That is why I’ve taken the role of opening a plus size clothing boutique. I encourage plus size women to love, appreciate and enjoy their curves! Despite what scrutiny “we” get, being plus size is not a disability, it’s a blessing. We’re just waiting for the world to catch up ;-).
Oh my, isn’t she fabulous?!! I loved all of her answers, all of which had the core of inner confidence and self-love! I could so relate to going to bed crying at times due to being unhappy with my physical appearance (thankfully that’s an issue I no longer have).
