Every Thursday I feature a lovely lady, bloggers as well as other gorgeous ladies I know or meet, who tell us what makes their bodies fabulous! The purpose is to empower women to to accept and love their bodies’ as they are by showing women with various body types, skin colors, hair textures, and more.
This week I bring to you the awesome Tamika, owner of Posilive Tees
What makes your body fabulous?
My body is fabulous because it’s healthy! I’ve been a vegetarian for 2 years now, and I’ve been really careful and conscious about the things that I put in my body. It’s important to me that I take care of the inside of my body as well as the outside. I’ve really noticed a difference since I’ve been on this healthy journey!
What is your favorite thing about how you look? And why?
I would have to say my smile. It’s so big that people can’t help but smile back at me! LOL! Even when I smile at myself, it puts me in a much better mood.
What are your favorite things to wear to flatter your body or just help you feel good?
I love to wear tops and dresses with a cinched waist. All could be wrong with the world that day, but a cinched waist waist will make it all better! I grab for some sort of belt every chance I get. It takes any look from frumpy to fab in seconds!
When it comes to finding clothes, what are some issues you come across? And how do you solve them?
My biggest issue is trying to cover my rear end! God definitely didn’t forget to bless me in that region! LOL! It’s always a challenge trying to find clothes that are small up top, but bigger at the bottom. I stick to brands and stores that I know have bottoms for curvy girls, and when I don’t feel like fighting in a fashion war, I go for a dress or a skirt. I’m also careful to make sure that if I have on skinny jeans or bottoms that are fitted, that I have a loose flowy top…and of course…a cinched waist
What role do you think the media plays in body acceptance?
A huge roll! It’s not just teenagers who look at the cover of magazines, tv shows, movies, and videos and think they want to look exactly like that. It’s women too! We tend to forget, through the magic of photoshop, that every single woman has flaws and things she wishes she could change about herself. We must learn to embrace every single part of our bodies and focus more on what we do like instead of what we don’t and then take steps to accentuate those good qualities!
What are your thoughts on female body acceptance and appreciation?
It is extremely important that we stop picking ourselves apart every chance we get. I challenge every woman to find something that she likes about herself…just one thing…and compliment herself on that one thing for an entire week. Just watch how dramatically her mood will change. I also would say that it is important for us to stop looking to others to validate us and tell us that we are beautiful because we are! No matter if no one else tells us from now until the end of all times, there is beauty in each and every one of us, but we have to see it first before we can expect the rest of the world to!
such a fabulous lady!! I would certainly have to agree that you must smile back at her when she smiles (I know I do whenever I see her at church or around town), and I am all for a cinched waist :-).
