Refined Nostalgia
While I love blogs, mags, and watching the runways, I am truly inspired by the women of the past who wore cinched waist, full skirts, and longer hem lines. The women who loved the pomp and circumstance of a big hat on a Sunday (or any day) morning). Women who loved to show some arm and a little ankle, nothing more.
To me, there is nothing more refined than the clothing of the 50′s and 60′s or clothes inspired by those decades. As I got dressed Sunday morning, I felt more refined with each piece I added.
Dress: Talbots- vintage from Savers Thrift Store (more vintage Talbot’s dresses); Belt and Clutch: Forever 21; Shoes: Valentino- thrifted from Buffalo Exchange (similar); Hat: unknown- Bought from vendor at church function
This outfit reminds me of my childhood watching my granny get dressed for church or for getting together with her friends. I think I’ll wear it the next time I go see her; it’ll put a smile on her face like the last time I wore a hat to church
.
What decade inspires you and why? I’d love to know!
P.S. Thanks for all of your well wishes on my final projects and your patience while I took a little break

love cinched waists, so elegant and feminine…

The 60′s era is a great style era. I love the style like on Mad Men, that era you saw the classy, refined but still sexy ladies and dapper, well dressed men.
You look great, you are wearing that hat!!!

Hi, love the outfit! Your shoes are so nice!
I can totally agree with you! There is no comparison to the women of old that knew how to make modesty beautiful. You are certainly making that statement with this pretty dress and I LOVE the hat. I think you totally should wear it the next time you see your Granny. My Grandma used to get all dolled up to go to church (or anywhere!) too. I miss her.
