Your Body Is Fabulous- Kourtney
The YBIF series was started as a result of a book I started writing many years ago, “Your Body Is Fabulous: Dress Like It,” because I feel style and fashion is nothing if you don’t love the body you’re dressing. So, every Thursday I feature a lovely lady, bloggers as well as other gorgeous ladies I know or meet, who tell us what makes their bodies fabulous! The purpose is to empower women to to accept and love their bodies’ as they are by showing women with various body types, skin colors, hair textures, and more. The awesome Kourtney of Cheap Chic Curvy stops by!
What makes your body fabulous?
What makes my body fabulous is that it’s MY body and no one else’s. I haven’t always appreciated the body that I have. However, after witnessing people pay for assets that I’ve been blessed with I learned to embrace every curve, dimple and roll!
What is your favorite thing about how you look? And why?
My favorite thing about my look is my hair and smile. Wait, was I suppose to choose one thing? Ah well lol, I chose my hair because I love every curl and kink. My hair is uniquely mine and I have learned to embrace the good and bad hair days that I frequently have. My smile is the window to my soul. Even on bad days I still try to smile and think about the positive things, instead of the negative.
What are your favorite things to wear to flatter your body or just help you feel good?
My favorite things to wear to flatter my body type would definitely be pencil skirts. As mentioned prior, I love my assets and wearing pencil skirts is a easy, yet flattering way to accentuate my body type!
When it comes to finding clothes, what are some issues you come across? And how do you solve them?
When finding clothes I find it most difficult to purchase dresses that fit my body type. I say this because I’m smaller at the top, compared to my bottom half. I wear a size 20-22 on the bottom and 16-18 on top. With that being said, I usually take pieces to get altered frequently. So frequent that I have my own parking spot at the Cleaners, not really-I deserve one though lol!
What role do you think the media plays in body acceptance?
I believe media plays a very important role in body acceptance. I don’t believe “media” realizes just how important of a role they play. However, one should not look to the media to develop their own sense of self.
What are your thoughts on female body acceptance and appreciation?
In my opinion I believe female body acceptance had come a long way, but it isn’t where it should be. My parents told me at a young age that I was beautiful. I believe it should start at home. No matter your shape, height, or size you should love the person God has created you to be.
Isn’t Kourtney fabulous, and she’s sweet as pie too!! I love what she said about focusing on the positives and not the negatives, whether it be about our bodies or life circumstances, this is very important.
