Your Body Is Fabulous- Emonne
The YBIF series was started as a result of a book I started writing many years ago, “Your Body Is Fabulous: Dress Like It,” because I feel style and fashion is nothing if you don’t love the body you’re dressing. So, every Thursday I feature a lovely lady, bloggers as well as other gorgeous ladies I know or meet, who tell us what makes their bodies fabulous! The purpose is to empower women to to accept and love their bodies’ as they are by showing women with various body types, skin colors, hair textures, and more. This week the beautiful Emonne of Beauty Marked shares with us!!
What makes your body fabulous?
I believe that the fact that my body was made in God’s image makes it fabulous. I’m not perfect. I have flaws and things about my appearance that I wish were different. Still, when I look in the mirror, I know that God made me as a reflection of Him and that’s quite fabulous if you ask me!
What is your favorite thing about how you look? And why?
My favorite thing about how I look is my smile. God blessed me with a beautiful smile. For years I’ve been asked if I’ve ever had braces or done teeth whitening treatments, which I haven’t! I believe that God gave me a pearly white smile because He gave me a gift to speak and sing. It all works together!
What are your favorite things to wear to flatter your body or just help you feel good?
I love, love, love wearing bright colors. For a number of years I worked in retail where I had to wear all black or black and white every single day. I vowed that once I left the retail sales industry, I would wear bright colors and bold prints to express my personality and joy. I feel so happy wearing orange, mint, yellow, turquoise and anything leopard…especially my go-to, “momma swag” shoes: Leopard Sperrys.
When it comes to finding clothes, what are some issues you come across? And how do you solve them?
My major issue with clothing is finding pants that fit my waist and hips well. I have a small waistline so it’s not always easy to find jeans or dress pants that fit me without being too tight in other areas. I’ve learned to shop at stores that carry pants that fit my body well, like Ann Taylor Loft. (They have GREAT sales, too.)
What role do you think the media plays in body acceptance?
The media plays a large role in body acceptance, especially for young girls. They portray images of women that display beauty in a very narrow way, usually focusing all of the attention on outer appearance. I think it’s OK to be inspired by the media when it comes to fashion or style ideas but it should not be looked to as our standard of beauty.
What are your thoughts on female body acceptance and appreciation?
As women, we must find our beauty from inside and love the way that God made us by living a lifestyle of health and wellness. I believe that we should make the most of what we have and embrace our uniqueness! After giving birth to my daughter last year, my body went through a lot of changes, and still does. Some which I like, some which I don’t like. Still, it’s important to me to appreciate the fact that I’m healthy and focus on the things about myself that I like. So often women look in the mirror and put their bodies through a critical analysis, carefully observing every flaw and “imperfection”. We must learn to count our blessings and appreciate that.
I think Emonne is just lovely! Don’t you?!? I adore her point about loving ourselves from the inside! We must have love for our inner-self in order to embrace our exterior beauty.
