The YBIF series was started as a result of a book I started writing many years ago, “Your Body Is Fabulous: Dress Like It,” because I feel style and fashion is nothing if you don’t love the body you’re dressing. So, every Thursday I feature a lovely lady, bloggers as well as other gorgeous ladies I know or meet, who tell us what makes their bodies fabulous! The purpose is to empower women to to accept and love their bodies’ as they are by showing women with various body types, skin colors, hair textures, and more. Today Whitney of Off-Glass share her fabulousness with us!!
What makes your body fabulous?
For me, I would say I’m “well proportioned”. I thank God for that because everything is less stressful that way! I’m a curvy girl but I love that nothing overpowers each other. That’s fabulous!
What is your favorite thing about how you look? And why?
You know we black girls do rock, but I go hard for my hot cocoas! I love my brown tone and wouldn’t trade it for the world. I absolutely love the skin I’m in. If you don’t love it, who else will?
What are your favorite things to wear to flatter your body or just help you feel good?
I love a good 5′ inch heel. Elevation flatters my legs for sure and I like to play off of that strength, heavy. I feel good in anything I put on but I feel great when heels are apart of the look.
When it comes to finding clothes, what are some issues you come across? And how do you solve them?
Oh that’s easy, my bulging stomach. The solution, Spanx duh! I kid. I don’t own any but I’m not against them. Because of my curves I find more trouble in my denim jeans. I have a small waist and the fit isn’t always the best there so I simply belt it. I normally go with a thin sized belt that’s easy to blend through my clothes. Listen, Nicki Minaj has to have an ah-maaazing seamstress.
What role do you think the media plays in body acceptance?
Honestly, visual aspects from the media have been a part of all of us from early age. Who hasn’t compared themselves to a model or celebrity before? I wish the media would embrace the notion to promote loving who you are and accepting that more. I do believe that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
What are your thoughts on female body acceptance and appreciation?
It’s so important to me. I strive to be a positive influence for other young women by showing that great style has everything to do with personal acceptance and celebration. Fall in love with yourself!
I’m pretty sure I’m taller than Whitney, but I too love a good 5″ hehe. I love what she said about loving her brown skin and great style having to do with personal acceptance and celebration. You can’t really have a style of your won without self-love first; true style is based on confidence.
