Your Body Is Fabulous- Jacqueline
The YBIF series was started as a result of a book I started writing many years ago, “Your Body Is Fabulous: Dress Like It,” because I feel style and fashion is nothing if you don’t love the body you’re dressing. So, every Thursday I feature a lovely lady, bloggers as well as other gorgeous ladies I know or meet, who tell us what makes their bodies fabulous! The purpose is to empower women to to accept and love their bodies’ as they are by showing women with various body types, skin colors, hair textures, and more. This week the wonderful Jacqueline of Fashion & Pho stops by!
What makes your body fabulous?
I love that my body can fit a variety of styles, and now I feel confident enough to show the world my body without fear or negative thoughts.
What is your favorite thing about how you look? And why?
I love my eyes, my shoulder blades and my tattoos. My eyes are those kind of blue eyes that change color depending on what I am wearing, sometimes they are bright blue, sometimes green, sometimes grey. I can’t explain why I like my shoulder blades… and my tattoos remind me off all the people and places that have meant something to me.
What are your favorite things to wear to flatter your body or just help you feel good?
I love to wear short skirts, they make my legs look nice, but for a long time I lived in Turkey where, with my blonde hair, many assumptions were made about my profession if I wore short skirts. Essentially, it would have made me a target for a lot of unwanted attention from men and meant I would have received more street harassment than I already did, but now I live in Vietnam and can wear anything! Wearing lipstick makes me feel good too!
When it comes to finding clothes, what are some issues you come across? And how do you solve them?
I currently live in Vietnam where most women are half the size of me, in height and weight. So, buying clothes here is close to impossible for me. My solution is tailoring! Vietnam has a rich tradition of having tailors to make clothes for you cheaply and in a variety of styles. I’ve used my time in Vietnam to develop a personal style with the help of my tailor.
What role do you think the media plays in body acceptance
The media plays a huge role in body acceptance, and is getting better than it was a couple of years ago. I think that it will continue to positively effect people. Of course, the majority of media will continue to portray one body type only (for men and women) but, I believe the general public will start to perceive it as more and more unrealistic, like the way people look at barbie today. No one (failing a couple of fools) actually believes this to be an ideal body. The public will be smarter and view the things we see on television/media as more abstract and removed from reality. (in my opinion)
What are your thoughts on female body acceptance and appreciation?
I think female body acceptance is flourishing at the moment, which is wonderful, just by reading the blogs in my blog roll I can see beautiful women from across the globe who are proud of their bodies and the delicious assortment of clothes and styles they rock!
Jacqueline is such a sweetheart!! I love that she is an avid user of a tailor, that she loves her shoulder blades (you don’t hear that often), and her opinion that people will start to see the body ideals as unrealistic and therefore stop chasing after unrealistic ideals (I hope she is right)!
