Your Body Is Fabulous- Shilpi
The YBIF series was started as a result of a book I started writing many years ago, “Your Body Is Fabulous: Dress Like It,” because I feel style and fashion is nothing if you don’t love the body you’re dressing. So, every Thursday I feature a lovely lady, bloggers as well as other gorgeous ladies I know or meet, who tell us what makes their bodies fabulous! The purpose is to empower women to to accept and love their bodies’ as they are by showing women with various body types, skin colors, hair textures, and more. Today the lovely Shilpi of Pink Jasmine Styling stops by to share!
What makes your body fabulous?
A fresh mind, heart full of love, smiling face and zest to be best. I try eating things which are good for my health, regular walking/exercising and dance like as if nobody is watching me. I find my body fabulous as it is a gift from God and I have to take care of it to respect it.
What is your favorite thing about how you look? And why?
I believe I am a very normal looking person but I have expressive black eyes. I have always been complimented for my eyes. They reveal exactly what I feel from inside. They are true messenger of my emotions. Second best thing I like about myself is my smile. I consider this as my asset since it has always been helpful in my personal as well in my professional life in building good relations. Who doesn’t like smiling faces? I guess everyone loves them and I consider myself one such blessed person.
Being Indian, I love wearing saree and Indian churidaar with kurti. They make me feel comfortable yet beautiful. In busy days, one can find me in denim jeans and simple tee.
When it comes to finding clothes, what are some issues you come across? And how do you solve them?
After delivering my beautiful twins, I have a change in my size and not all clothes fit me well. I try to depend more on denims jeans or trousers from Maternity shops. My tanks look tight on me so I try covering them with cropped top.
What role do you think the media plays in body acceptance?
I have noticed media playing both negative and positive role for putting the rules for right body type. The whole size 0 concept has actually forced people to do crash diets and not following the healthy lifestyle. I feel one should be fit and feel energetic before aiming for size 0. We need to be human and adore the kind of body we are born with.
What are your thoughts on female body acceptance and appreciation?
I believe in beauty at heart and purity in thoughts. If you have a good ‘Karma’ then you can only be one thing i.e. ‘Fabulous’. Females are the most precious creation by God but still they are the one who suffer and get disgraced for their body. They became victim of social violence, rapes and eve teasing. They are always expected to be fit and slim contrary to men. Sadly, we are forced to listen and being judged by others all the time. We should STOP thinking about everyone and just listen to our heart and love ourselves just the way we are.
First of all, I hope my body looks as good as Shilpi’s after I have a baby or two (of course, if it doesn’t I’ll be okay, lol)!! I love her final point that we should stop looking at others; comparison is one of the greatest causes of body image issues. We just need to love ourselves!
