Grace Extended

I recently started going to therapy (virtual, because Rona...), and at the end of my last session, in which I was processing my first “ah ha moment,” {let’s just say it was a tough one}, my therapist told me to extend grace to myself. I don’t know about you, but as of late, with all of the uncertainties of this pandemic, I’ve been big on extending grace to others—- School leaders, staff, patents, and students need some grace, in trying to make the best decisions for the school year. Small business owners need grace, as we deal with the effects COVID has on product supplies, shipping and more. Our loved ones need grace, as they may be a bit out of pocket while dealing with a pandemic, along with their own personal matters...the list could go on and on. So, when my therapist told me to extend grace to myself, I really had to sit with that, and figure out what that looks like. It’s been a couple of weeks since that session, so I wanted to share four ways that I’ve been extending grace to myself, in case you too can use some help with this:

  1. I remind myself that I am deserving of kindness.

  2. I acknowledge that it’s ok to make mistakes…I’m not less than when I do.

  3. I appreciate the small daily wins and count my blessings.

  4. I celebrate the woman I am today, instead of focusing on the woman I want to be.

I have a ways to go before extending grace to myself becomes a daily habit/practice, but I’m seeing that it really makes a huge difference, so I’m definitely going to continue giving it a go. Do you find it easier to extend grace to others than to yourself? Do you have some additional tips for extending grace to yourself? Please share!
