Flewed Out

Soooo...after being nervous about traveling earlier in the year, I took a trip during the pandemic. I know that people say we shouldn’t be doing “normal” things during such an abnormal time, but because of the craziness that has been 2020, I felt a need to briefly get away more than ever. Also, if 2020 in all of its, racism, murdering of Black people by cops, COVID-19, quarantine, death of loved ones, virtual school, glory, has taught me anything, it’s to not put things off for tomorrow, when I can do them today!

So, I flewed out for a few days. We were initially planning to go to DC for the March on Washington, but a couple of weeks before we were to depart, the mayor of DC enacted a 14 day travel restriction for like 30 states, including Texas...who has time for a 14 day quarantine? Not I! Therefore, instead of fully cancelling our travel plans, we rebooked our travel for Cancun.

We are usually go out into the city, eat with the locals, go on food tour, do all kinds of excursions people, but this time around, my beau and I just wanted to relax, have some libations by the pool, and bask in the sunshine, without being bothered by a lot of people. We did just that, and it was just the break I needed!

If you’ve been wanting to travel, whether internationally or domestically here are three things I recommend:

Bring plenty of mask. Everywhere you go requires mask wearing, particularly indoors. I had disposable and reusable mask, and went trough my whole little reusable mask collection.

Read the recent reviews. Wherever you are thinking of traveling or whatever you’re thinking of doing, look for recent reviews. Reviews about how things were done before Rona are not helpful, because everything will be so different.

Go with an open mind. Don’t expect your experience to be like your pre-COVID travel adventures. Our resort didn’t offer room service, night life options were limited, and mask even had to be worn to get drinks at the outdoor bar, among other things. We took these changes with a grain of salt, and had a delightful time!

Have fun! Fun looks different for us all. Decide in advance what that will look like for you.

I didn’t want to overload y’all with stuff from my weekend in Cancun, so I kept it simple, but if you have other questions about my pandemic travel experience, drop them below, or shoot me an email.

Have you traveled lately? If so, where have you been, and what was your experience?
